Campaign Rewards Everyday Nice Acts with Donations to Help Close Achievement Gap
This holiday season, AchieveMpls, a nonprofit dedicated to helping make the college and career dreams of all Minneapolis students come true, and Weber Shandwick, a global marketing firm with a long history in the Twin Cities, are excited to announce a partnership and the launch of a pay-it-forward holiday campaign, #MnICE.
Aimed at increasing awareness around the local achievement gap issue, Weber Shandwick and AchieveMpls are challenging Minnesotans everywhere to do what the state is best known for — being nice.
Throughout the month of December, nice deeds submitted and posted on www.mn-ice.com can help raise money for AchieveMpls. To participate, simply share your nice deeds on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #MnICE and #entry. Weber Shandwick will select nice deeds to post on mn-ice.com. For each hashtag #MnICE submission, Weber Shandwick will make a donation to AchieveMpls. Entries are subject to full terms and conditions at www.mn-ice.com.
Niceness can be acts as small as brushing snow off your neighbor’s car, making cookies for your neighbor or offering to exchange your front-row hockey tickets with a stranger seated further back. Proceeds from the campaign will go toward AchieveMpls, an organization dedicated to helping high school students meet achievement and opportunity gap challenges head-on.
Confronting one of the largest racial employment and education achievement gaps in the country, AchieveMpls mobilizes the Twin Cities community’s resources to ensure that young people in the area graduate from high school with the tools and support that are crucial for career and college readiness. As the nonprofit partner of Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), it provides personalized career and college planning resources, work readiness training, on-the-job experience, and professional mentors to help students become career and college ready for today’s global knowledge-based economy.
“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Weber Shandwick for the #MnICE campaign,” said Pam Costain, chief executive officer, AchieveMpls. “This is more than a holiday gift for our organization; it’s about building community and helping make education and career goals come true for our kids.”
The work AchieveMpls does aligns with Weber Shandwick’s Impact Project, the agency’s global 2016 initiative that is dedicated to helping close the achievement gap.
“By doing every day nice things for people, especially during the holiday season, we’re hoping to thaw some of that icy cold Minnesota is known for,” said Eric Pehle, general manager and executive vice president, Weber Shandwick Minneapolis. “We can’t do it alone. In order to make a big impact in the month of December we need the community to get involved.”
As the strategic nonprofit partner of Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), AchieveMpls manages Career & College Centers in MPS high schools and directs the STEP-UP Achieve youth employment program with the City of Minneapolis. It also mobilizes volunteers as career coaches and mentors, and sparks community conversations on public education and issues impacting our young people. Investing in Minneapolis students reaps rich rewards for our entire community. As more young people achieve their dreams of college, meaningful work and a bright future, we all benefit from a new generation of dynamic leaders, a strong economy and a vibrant city. www.achievempls.org .
